A new benchmark for Australian HVAC market

On November 11th, MEK Engineering launched the operations of Geoclima Australasia in Perth, at the East Fremantle Yacht Club. During the event, Mike Honer (MEK Engineering) and  Paul Kozlov (Geoclima) strengthened the existing partnerships, presented the chiller range and promoted our products and technologies.

The event was attended by approximately 40 guests, including contractors, supporters, consultants, and other experts in the HVAC sector.

The Australian HVAC market is strongly oriented towards energy efficiency and engineered solutions providing high reliability and efficiency and, at the same time, reducing management and maintenance costs.

Geoclima products and options are particularly suitable for satisfying these requirements. Attendants showed great interest in the Turbomiser units, the new adiabatic evaporative system and the use of low GWP refrigerants, such as R290, R600a and HFO-1234ze. Such interest is demonstrated also by the receipt of the first orders for Geoclima chillers: a dozen of units are being delivered around this Christmas.

Geoclima Australasia will equally rely on the production facility in Italy and Bangkok. The Thai factory will start operating at the beginning of 2015 and will shorten the lead times and assist with the testing of chillers to AHRI and other standards.

The main innovation introduced by Geoclima Australasia noticed by the attendees was the unprecedented efficiency of the dual circuit series-counterflow Turbomiser chillers on dissimilar compressors and the widest range of products and options on offer in 4 MW and under central plant market. Specifically, the talks and Q&A session revolved around the following topics:

  • Turbocor-powered chillers for mission critical applications incl Data Centres
  • Modular 50 kW heat pumps on isobutane
  • Dynamic noise control
  • Air-cooled chillers for the ambient 45°C and above
  • Turbomiser family of air- and water-cooled chillers
  • Stock chillers, compressors and spare parts making our service prompt and effective.

The most interest for the Australian HVAC market was found to be in the exceptional energy efficiency, an ability to optimise several chiller plant components and the highest standard of the service and sales support. We currently have Turbocor-powered chillers  of 500 to 1000 kW in our Melbourne stock.

Geoclima chillers offer the state-of-the-art  technology and the highest quality provided by ensuring the highest efficiency and reliability with reduced delivery times.

The highest quality of customer service will be provided to the Australian market by our qualified local and Italian personnel as well as by our trained service partner network. The first few chillers will be commissioned in Australia around this coming Christmas.

Geoclima Australasia offers advanced engineered solutions, customized on the clients’ specific needs and able to meet particular security requirements, mainly in case of special installations, like those for hazardous areas, mining or naval sector.

Although Geoclima units have been running in Australia since 2002, the customer base was predominantly in the food and the process industry, supplied from the Italian plant. The newly established Geoclima presence in Perth and Melbourne, an addition of a new manufacturing and test facility in Bangkok made ourselves a permanent part of the Australian HVAC & R sector.

In conclusion, the launch of Geoclima Australasia was an important occasion presenting our technology and  introducing the main novelties, such as the stock chillers and the partnership with MEK Engineering, our service partner for the Australian market.

At Philconstruct 2014 to talk about adiabatic system and low GWP refrigerants

During the 25th edition of Philconstruct, held in Manila from the 4th to 8th November, we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the Philippine market, participating for the first time as exhibitor, together with our official partner Nouvac & Flowaire International. It is an important exhibition for the building and HVAC/R industry, which beckons a lot of experts from all over the world.

During Philconstruct 2014 we could also take an active part in the simultaneous events and present our main technologies and products.

In particular we attended as speakers at workshop “Innovation Presentation”, with a speech entitled “Going Green: first world technologies”, organized together with our regional service partner for South East Asia, Welcome Air Tech (M) Sdn Bhd. On that occasion, we had the opportunity to talk about the great advantages provided by the adiabatic system: with this technology and in specific ambient conditions, it is possible to obtain great performance with a significant energy saving. Moreover, good results are coming from the use of the new adiabatic system, recently developed by our R&D Department: better performance and reduction of unnecessary material.

The new adiabatic system and the great benefits of the use of low GWP refrigerants, such as HFO-1234ze, which is available for every type of Geoclima chiller, were the key issues we discussed during another important event. Geoclima was selected to take part in a conference that was attended by around 120 top level experts, chosen among the main HVAC exhibitors. On that occasion, we could emphasize the benefits and the outcomes obtained from the use of these technologies. In particular, the chillers with adiabatic system turn out to be a valid alternative to water cooled units, since they have a more compact structure and does not require the installation of cooling towers.

In conclusion, it was an important opportunity to draw the attention of the Southeast Asian market to Geoclima. The great focus put on efficiency and energy saving represents a common ground for the Asian market’s requirements and the Geoclima offer.

Help us to help them: first project by GEOforCHILDREN

At MCE 2014, we introduced to all our visitors a project we care a lot about: the charity association GEOforCHILDREN. Some months have passed and now we have finally made the first step. In October 2014, in fact, the GEOforCHILDREN Association made its first donation to a children’s home in Moscow.

This has been possible thanks to the generosity of some people who embraced the cause of the association and donated clothes and toys that otherwise would have been thrown away. The children’s home receiving this donation is the “Baby House n. 6”, which every year receives about 500 children from birth to 4 years old who are waiting to be transferred to other orphanages. It is a first small step, but GEOforCHILDREN is working hard so that other children may receive the help they need.

We will keep you updated and we remind you to visit the website geoforchildren.org, where you can find information and news about projects and events from the Association. If you have any questions or if you want to support GEOforCHILDREN, do not hesitate to send an email to info@geoforchildren.org or to contact Geoclima: we will be glad to give all the information you need.

Another important success: three interconnected units for a unique test

We have developed a prestigious project for an important English financial institution. The project required a very complicated testing work, since it was necessary to test the performance of an air handling unit in split version with a heat pump, simulating the actual ambient conditions in both summer (+ 35 °C) and winter (+ 10 °C). To do this, we have used our testing climate chamber as a air wind duct, with a chiller conditioning the ambient according to our needs. The testing phase has required 4 days to set up the system, in order to get realistic environmental conditions, and 3 days of witness test. The results have been very satisfying and have demonstrated the flexibility of our test center and the ability of our operators to make accurate measurements in every condition.
Watch a video of the testing phase.

air handling unit The air handling unit has a cooling capacity of 350 kW and a heating capacity of 415 kW. It is equipped with a damper and a flow deflector, which simulate the actual pressure drop within the duct of the plant.
Heat pump The air handling unit is electrically and hydraulically connected to a heat pump with scroll compressors and inverters, so that it is possible to verify the cooling and heating capacity of both units.
3 In order to control the air ambient temperature within the climate chamber, we used a 300 kW water cooled TMH chiller that carried hot or cold water to the dry coolers on the top of the chamber.

Geoclima obtained the F-GAS certification…and that’s not all!

Sustainability and efficiency are among the main objectives that lead every stage of our activity. To reach these purposes we not only pay great attention to the quality of materials and to staff training, but we also aim to meet the strictest international standards.
To this end, we set two important goals for 2014: the F-GAS certification, which is based on the Regulation (EC) No. 842/2006, whose objective is to reduce emissions of the fluorinated greenhouse gases; and the AHRI certification, that tests and certifies the performance of HVACR equipment.

F-GAS certification

In July 2014 we obtained the F-Gas Company Certificate for the “Activities of installation, maintenance or servicing of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing certain fluorinated greenhouse gases”, in compliance with DPR N 43 of 27 January 2012 and European Regulation No. 303/2008. Geoclima is registered in the (Italian) National electronic register of certified companies and individuals: www.fgas.it.

AHRI certification

We have started the application process for the AHRI ACCL (Air-Cooled Water-Chilling Package) and AHRI WCCL (Water-Cooled Water-Chilling Package) certifications, attesting the energy efficiency of our Turbomiser chillers. We have started the certification process for the AHRI ACCL (Air-Cooled Water-Chilling Package) and AHRI WCCL (Water-Cooled Water-Chilling Package) certificates, attesting the energy efficiency of our Turbomiser chillers. The completion of the certification process is expected by the end of 2014.
